Growing up, I earned money the way a lot of kids did: mowing lawns, walking dogs, washing cars, and helping neighbors with whatever they needed. Those early jobs taught me responsibility, confidence, time management, and how to earn someone’s trust.
Years later, as a dad of two teenagers, I realized that world had changed.
Most parents today would not send their child door to door to find work. They would not post their child’s phone number on a community board. And most gig platforms are built for adults, not students.
But the need is still there.
Students still want to earn money, build experience, and take on real responsibility. Neighbors still need help with everyday tasks. Parents still want their kids to grow, but in a way that feels safe, transparent, and age-appropriate.
StudentGigs was built to bring the neighborhood student-for-hire experience into today’s world.
It gives students a way to find real work in their own community. It gives neighbors a simple way to get reliable, affordable help. And it gives parents visibility into the process, so they can stay informed and involved.
StudentGigs was built around a simple belief: students should be able to earn, grow, and help their communities, but parents should never be left out of the loop.
For students under 18, a parent or guardian must approve the account. Parents can see the gigs their student is involved in, stay connected to communication, and review opportunities before their student takes on work. Communication happens through the app, helping keep personal contact information protected.
No platform can replace a parent’s judgment. But StudentGigs is designed to give families more visibility, more structure, and more confidence than the old informal ways of finding neighborhood work.
